THERE ARE FIVE CORE TYPES OF REIKI NAMELY:
While Jikiden and Western Reiki both have their roots in Usui Sensei's Reiki, they differ. Western Reiki added various new ideas and practices and left other elements behind. While Jikiden Reiki has remained more traditional. It is natural that in different cultures Reiki should spread in different ways. It is possible that if the original form of Reiki had been rigidly adhered to, it wouldn't have become so popular and only a small number of people may have been blessed with Reiki. Jikiden and Western Reiki methods could be called spiritual healing methods, but they are mostly physical treatments. In order to perform Jikiden or Usui (or all) methods of Reiki treatments, Reiki practitioners refer to 'radiating energy and light' from all parts of their bodies, especially from their hands, which energy is then guided / transferred to the recipient, without any actual physical contact. When a trained Reiki practitioner transfers the 'radiated' energy, some physical symptoms of minor ailments such as a toothache, should only take a few minutes to reduce and become more comfortable. Acute pain, bruises, cuts, burns, stings, head aches, back aches and recovery from surgery can be greatly reduced with Reiki treatment and Reiki can also assist with the speeding up of recovery after surgery, procedures, accidents etc. The objective of the energy emitted from the practitioner's hands into the client's body is to alleviate or remove, or at least minimise physical pain and heal the affected area. Reiki can also facilitate healing of emotional and psychological pain the person may be experiencing. Benefits of Jikiden Reiki
“Jikiden Reiki is very effective in treating physical weakness or psychological problems, including trauma.”
Karuna® Reiki: The word 'Karuna' is a word which translates to mean any action taken to diminish the suffering of others and could also be translated as “Compassionate action” in Sanskrit. [Sanskrit is the “primary liturgical language of Hinduism, a philosophical language of Hinduism, Buddhism and Jainism; and a literary language and lingua franca of ancient and medieval South Asia.” (www.Wikipedia.com)]. The Karuna system of Reiki was developed by William L. Rand and symbols used during a Reiki session were channelled by several Reiki Masters, including Marcy Miller, Kellie-Ray Marine, Pat Courtney, Catherine Mills Bellamont and Marla Abraham. William used the symbols and found them to have value, but felt that they had greater potential than had been previously accessed. He meditated on them and was guided to develop the attunement process and to call the new system Karuna Reiki. Karuna Reiki energy has a more focused feeling to it and works on all the energy bodies at the same time. Those who receive an attunement / acclimatisation (or initiation to practice reiki) from their Reiki teacher once they have qualified as Reiki practitioners, often report experiences with their Guides, Angels and Higher Self and feel the healing presence of these beings.

Western Reiki: As quoted from the Jikiden Reiki Kenkyukai Tadao Yamaguchi Manual 2010: “The large majority (99%) of Reiki currently being practised in Japan is Westernised Reiki. However, the healing art of Reiki actually originated in Japan, and subsequently spread throughout the world. At one point, it was believed that Western Style Reiki was the only surviving Reiki and that there were no longer any practitioners in Japan, so when Reiki was reintroduced to Japan, those people who were interested visited North America to learn it. In truth, there have always been Reiki successors in Japan. They are:
