WHAT IS A SOMATIC THERAPIST?

A Somatic Therapist is a type of therapist who focuses on the mind-body connection and the impact of physical sensations, emotions, and experiences on overall well-being. Somatic therapy is based on the belief that the body and mind are interconnected, and that emotional and psychological issues can manifest as physical symptoms in the body.

This form of therapy often involves techniques such as mindfulness, body awareness, breathwork, movement exercises, and touch therapy to ehlp clients explore and release stored emotions and tension in the body.

Somatic therapy can be helpful for individuals who have experienced trauma, chronic stress, anxiety, fatigue or physical tension. By addressing the body’s responses to stress and trauma, somatic therapy aims to promote healing, increase self-awareness, decrease muscle tension and headaches, decrease teeth grinding at nigh, lowers anxiety levels and heart rate related to the fight-flight-freeze body response, promote deep, restful sleep and increase self esteem. Somatic therapies further increases self-awareness and improve overall emotional well-being.

Somatic therapists may have backgrounds in various therapeutic modalities, such as somatic experiencing, body psychotherapy, dance/movement therapy, or sensorimotor psychotherapy.
